We're out-of-network with vision plans, but in-network with most medical insurances. And good news, we use a service that can submit your visit to your vision plan after your appointment, so if you have out-of-network benefits, you can get reimbursed directly by your plan. First we'll investigate your medical insurance coverage, and then we use this service for products or portions of the visit your medical insurance didn't pick up. We can check what your specific plan typically reimburses before you come in. 

We accept most major medical insurance plans, many of which include comprehensive eye exams as an annual benefit.

In 2016, we made the difficult decision to stop participating with vision plans. The reimbursement rates offered by most vision plans are so low that, to remain financially sustainable, we would have had to either dramatically increase the number of patients we see each day—reducing the time and attention each patient receives—or significantly raise fees that would impact patients without insurance. Neither option aligned with our commitment to accessible, high-quality care.

As an independent private practice, we have chosen to prioritize personalized care over high-volume scheduling. Vision plans are more commonly in-network in large corporate or chain practices than with smaller more medically focused independent offices like Harbor Eyecare Center.

If you have a vision plan, you may still be able to use out-of-network benefits. Our team can help determine your eligibility and often assists patients with submitting claims for that reimbursement.

It's also important to know that vision plans cover only routine vision care. Any visit involving the diagnosis, evaluation, or treatment of a medical eye condition is billed through your medical insurance, even if you have vision coverage.
